Public Speaking in the Church: Using Your Voice [Series]

June 30, 2016
by Rachel Miedema

[This post is part of our Public Speaking in the Church Series]

As a speaker, you have some powerful tools in your toolbox, aside from your content. There’s the power of story, which we’ve talked about in the previous post. There’s your body language for instance, a topic we will dig deeper into in a future post. There’s multimedia, also something we’ll explore further.

Then there’s your voice. [Read more…] about Public Speaking in the Church: Using Your Voice [Series]

The 10 Points of Push-back

10 Points of Push-back

June 29, 2016
by Jeremy Smith

I’ve earned, rightfully or not, the title of Push-back King within ChurchMag. It’s a natural orientation that I appreciate but also struggle with. People don’t naturally like others who push-back.

Notice, it’s not fun pushing back when there is much resistance.

Jesus was the ultimate at pushing back. He is my inspiration and role model. Whether it is him flipping tables, challenging Pharisees while writing in the sand, or asking God if there is no other way before going to the Cross that awaited Him. But He never settled. He wanted others to do their best, be there best.

And that is my heart. So I want to share with you what I believe is the best ways to push-back.

Free Independence Day Social Media Shareables

June 29, 2016
by Phil Schneider

Here’s a quick calendar update for you Americans out there: Independence Day is almost here! It’s like Christmas for people who love blowing stuff up, or at the least, hate the sky.

To help you get ahead, I’ve found some images that would make great backgrounds for some patriotic/freedom-themed quotes, which you could then share for your church or ministry on or around July 4. I’ve also taken the liberty of gathering some quotes for you, and I even went ahead and made some images for you to use as well. I’ve linked to the original source for the images below.

Being A Good Steward Despite Easy Phone Upgrades

Being A Good Steward Dispite Easy Phone Upgrades

June 28, 2016
by Jeremy Smith

I’m an unapologetic advocate for being a good steward of all that we own. That’s Christian talk for, I’m tight with my money.

This last weekend, my wife upgraded her phone from the iPhone 5S to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The salesman in passing informed me they had a BOGO sale that could get me one too with $200 off. The only catch is I’d have to buy out my current phone payment of $250 (plus taxes, transfer fee, and everything else, but we didn’t discuss that.)

My response: I’ll wait.

Every Church Tech Team Needs A Mission Statement

church tech team needs a mission statement

by Blessing Mpofu

Mission statements, though rarely spoken off are not irrelevant. They’re not spoken of or declared as important as they used. This doesn’t make them unimportant. The Church’s mission doesn’t change; making disciples and teaching them obey Jesus’ teaching. A community of people becoming more and more Christlike. Every church tech team needs a mission statement of sort.

Mission statements, or whatever you choose to call them, are necessary. They are a tether. Stating why your team exists means it doesn’t waste resources on irrelevant pursuits. Everything done, must be deliberate, purposeful. Mission statements, as they state intent, help distinguish between what should and shouldn’t be.

This applies to your tasks and focus. Mission statements help teams weigh the importance of each action. Assess the relevance of technology or its use.

Protect Your Church with More Than A Password [Infographic]

Protect Yourself With More Than A Password [Infographic]

June 27, 2016
by Jeremy Smith

Security is a big thing. For churches, it starts with not leaving personal information of staff and congregation members out. That includes your computer on and logged into your e-tithing account. It then expands into making sure you have strong password management and not having sticky notes lying on your desk. But this is not the end of increasing your security online. There is more you can and I believe should do.

I’ll be honest, this is going to take time and reiteration, but I believe it is as necessary as making sure the worship service is done well. So get secure.
