Listed #23 of Top 300 Christian Blogs for Ministry

April 30, 2015
by Eric Dye

The 12th edition of the Church Relevance Top 300 Christian Blogs for Ministry was released a few weeks ago. You’ll find solid, long standing blogs, as well as new blogs and resources that have risen further or landed on this EPIC list for the first time. I highly recommend you give the list a look.

This year, ChurchMag is honored to find ourselves several spots higher than last year, at #23. I would like to tell you that we had some kind of grand master plan and because of that, we moved up on the list. Alas, that is not the case. Unless of course, you consider being passionate about something, pouring your heart into it, and loving every minute of it.

Here’s what some of the ChurchMag Staff Writer’s (as well as myself) had to say about ChurchMag landing at #23…

Tech-Free Dinner Time with a Twist

April 30, 2015
by Eric Dye

We had to make a new rule at our house:

No devices at the dinner table.

We’ve always guarded our family time around meals. We’ve always strived to avoid dinner around the TV. Sure, there are exceptions, like pizza and a movie. You know, fun stuff like that.

So when we began to feel screens creeping into our normal meal times, we had to put an end to it. Everyone is following along and there are consequences to any violators. I think the key to our success, is that we acted on it before it became “normal.”

For some families, however, perhaps something like the Pepper Hacker would be a worthwhile investment for a device-free dinnertime:

Collaborate Globally with Video Conferencing

April 30, 2015
by Eric Dye

Even a small local business can have big needs, even global needs, in terms of supply chain, staffing, sales, and other departments. Meeting these needs in a cost-effective and creative way can expand your reach and enhance communications between your far-flung staff, suppliers, and contractors. Using cloud supported video meetings to meet these needs is a great way to bring everyone one into the room.

Unprogrammed: 02 What Nehemiah Can Teach Church Tech

April 29, 2015
by Jeremy Smith

At this time in my life, my favorite book of the Bible, on a personal level, is Nehemiah in the Old Testament. The Gospels are always important to salvation, but I find myself in my church tech role connecting with Nehemiah. One of the great things that I have been able to do is a devotional for myself within this book and found correlations between what Nehemiah has done to serve the Church and Kingdom of God in very practical ways, much like the sound booth and presentation controller run the tech on Sunday mornings or the social media manager puts together the tweets from the pastor for the week.

By The Numbers [Series]

April 29, 2015
by Jeremy Smith

I’ve released my first book, By The Numbers, which you can get on our Churchmag Press site here as well as a series of articles giving some back story to why we had posted the article. But we want to make this specific page as a landing page for everything that is going to go on with this series as I recognize this is going to be at least a one year endeavor with more articles with follow up data, interviews of social media, and web managers with some of these churches, and a look at some of the best content that is being published on these accounts.

The RPG Productivity Player’s Guide: Nuking and Spiking to Create Maximum Impact

April 28, 2015
by Rachel Miedema

[This is part 3 in the RPG Productivity Player’s Guide series.]

When playing a game, sometimes you’re content to simply have fun while playing, while at other times you want to make progress as soon as possible. If there’s an enemy bothering you, or a target you need to destroy to advance, nuking it with a powerful spell or an actual nuke may be your best course of action. Nuking and spiking assure maximum impact on the target.

Let’s translate that into real life. The goal of this series is to make you more productive; meaning creating maximum results in a minimum of time. You want to create maximum impact so to speak, so what does nuking and spiking look like when it comes to productivity?
