Is the iPhone Really the Revolutionary? [Video]

January 7, 2014
by Eric Dye

As revolutionary as the iPhone and iOS is referred to, this video, Everything is a Remix Case Study: The iPhone, really points out the truth about design and development.

There’s nothing new under the sun.

This is really goes to show the craziness of some of the recent patent wars and intellectually property rights, doesn’t it?

Take a look and tell me what you think:

How Many Articles Are Posted On the Web? [Infographic]

Is your church on the Internet, yet?

It might seem to be a silly question to ask on a church tech focused website, but many churches do not have a good online presence yet. If you follow the wisdom of Michael Hyatt from his book Platform, you need to make your first and strongest online presence your home website. And when you have a fully running website that shows off your staff, ministries, volunteers, and an active and consistent blog, then you can say you have a strong online presence.

Want to see how many articles are posted on the web every day?

The New Facebook Donate Now Button for Nonprofits

Facebook Donate Now Button

by Eric Dye

Do you remember Facebook Causes?

It has had evolved in many different ways over the years. It was initially integrated into Facebook in such a way that it was fairly easy to give to your favorite nonprofits and charities using Facebook Causes. For the past several years, however, Facebook Causes has faded away and most nonprofit organizations now find Facebook more difficult to engage their following, as reaching your own Facebook Page fans now comes at a price.

However, Facebook has now made a new option available for select nonprofits to accept donations directly on their Facebook Page and Newsfeed posts.

Tech Wreck Tuesday #17: No More Memory

January 7, 2014
by Jeremy Smith

Excuse me for a second, I am going to get very technical.

For those that want the tldr version: If you do not program right, you can ruin your hard drive quickly.

My background is in Computer Engineering and so I have my years of experience in low-level languages. One of the best features that I saw huge use for in my first year was in using C++ with pointers.

The hope is that you can use less processing power of locating, accessing, and then releasing memory by doing the foundational work yourself instead of using API functions that have lots of processing overhead. The concern is that if done wrong, you will loose your data and potentially corrupt your entire hard drive.

Now, to the devastation.

Buzzsprout Review

January 7, 2014
by Jesse Gruber

A few months ago, I was browsing the Church Tech community in search of some good podcasting advice. Missio Dei (MD) has had a YouTube account that was our primary source of content outsourcing, but I had recently realized the glaring problem with this: it’s not very portable. Sure, you can rip the audio from the video and throw it on your phone, but we wanted our content to be more accessible on the go.

I found a thread in the community and was browsing the comments and Buzzsprout came up. I checked out their site, contacted them and they offered a review period for us to try. A huge thanks is in order to Jared, one of the best customer service people out there. Thanks for the review trial and amazing support of your product! So, as we enter the new year, and you start new endeavors, here’s a rundown of Buzzsprout’s service.

Reflections: An Inspirational Video with a Great Reminder

January 6, 2014
by Eric Dye

Created as a graduation film for the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, this video short tells a story of growing up and much of what we lose as we do so.

The art style is amazing and the story conveys a great reminder to us all:

Don’t forget to be childlike.

Instead of always avoiding those rain puddles, perhaps we should jump into them every once and a while. 😉

Enjoy:
