We survived Thanksgiving!
Last week we took a break from the Church tech snack pack, as most of you were probably waiting in line at Best Buy.
Now that we’re back into the swing of things, here’s another sweet bit of links:

One thing that really jumped-out at me upon arriving in Italy almost four years ago, was using different money. I found it fun to examine the art, symbols and differences between the different money pieces. In most of the EU, we use the Euro. The coined denominations include a €2 and €1 (similar to american dollars in value) as well as 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cent pieces.
That all being said, I would never have thought to do something as #EPIC as this painted coin art:

Five Iron Frenzy—”FIF”, to their friends—was one of my favorite bands in high school and college. I saw them play live three times, including their 2003 final show in Denver, Colorado. I still play their old albums a lot. They’re fun, inspiring, and very singable. I’ve missed FIF these past ten years. Then, without warning, a Kickstarter campaign was launched, with the goal being met three times over within the first two days. All of a sudden, FIF had been resurrected. All of my dreams were coming true: more concerts, more albums, less “Combat Chuck.”
So, here I am, nearing thirty, listening to the newest albums from one of my favorite bands from a decade ago. It’s a weird moment, but I like it.

Let me start by saying that this is not an anti-tech post. I am a geek, for sure, and if this doesn’t prove it, nothing ever will. 🙂 So all that to say, I am writing this for myself, too.
Every single day I see more and more people with their faces buried in their smartphones. People who are seemingly letting their lives go by without truly noticing, as technology pulls them further and further from the real world around them.
Maybe that’s why I seriously love this cartoon by Liam Walsh:

Whenever new technology emerges, the reaction from the general populous, governments and the Church tend to be the same, respectively. While a Communist government’s reaction will differ from a Democracy, the reaction tends to be the same within each type.
The same can be said for the church. Denominations will vary, but within each denomination the reaction is fairly consistent. I even see this among church tech blogs, as some authors are ready to embrace new technology with no questions asked, while others survey the implications, implementations and cautiously proceed after it’s proven itself.
xkcd recetnly posted this dynamic in this tongue-in-cheek look at the simple answers to the questions that get asked about every new technology:
