WordPress Facebook Plugin

There are already a number of Facebook plugins for WordPress that have been announced and/or released but a newer one just released has caught my attention: WordPress Facebook Plugin.

Developed by a good friend, Chris Wallace and his team, it’s a robust plugin already (with more development upcoming).

A couple of key notes that have made it pretty attractive already:

  • Replace WP Comments with Facebook comments
  • Facebook Open Graph integration
  • WordPress account creation and login with Facebook

[Example here]

Those are just a few with more development on the way!

Thanks Chris and team!

Thanks for the write-up John! The plugin is currently in alpha so we’d appreciate any and all feedback, good or bad. We just pushed version 0.3.2 out, which adds localization as well as full comment replacement, which allows you to fully replace the WordPress comment system with Facebook comments.

    Intriguing…
Is there any way we can see how it works short of downloading and installing?
Also, any plans to implement other social networking logins?
I’ve really liked Disqus for that. One thing I’ve lamented is the disconnect between comments on blog, Twitter, and FB. Always wished they could be more integrated. Looks like you might be working along those lines?

I’ve been trying out and testing stuff. My beef is that I love the idea of integrating FB comments… but I want it to write back to my WP database so I own the comments and FB can’t just decide to not do it anymore. Plus, there will be a day when FB is passe… and I don’t want to have all my comments tied to the site.

We’re currently working on getting the comments to post to WordPress as well. That will be coming in a future version, hopefully very soon.

I love it also BUT it’s blocked from working at work because it calls Facebooks, API. Bummer, so no go for me.

It’s a good plugin but I’m not a fan of having to create an account to get it. I’d love to see it in the wordpress.org directory (or is it already?)

Sherman, we require registration because we will be offering support for the plugin and want to make sure everyone using the alpha version gets notified when we release our support package options. Feel free to download the plugin and then request to have your account deleted and we can make that happen. Thanks!

I’m trying to download that plugin but it is continually failing to load once I click the “download plugin” button.

It’s doing the same for the “holding pattern” page.

    HELP!

Love the plug in, but is there any way to keep the WordPress comments that were already on the posts? All the comments that were there on the posts are not visible.

Neat idea and application of the FB Social Apps. Does this plugin assume that everyone has a FB account? or is willing to create one to leave a comment?
