This is something that’s been on my mind a lot, recently, and I just had to share it. My questions may be alarming to some, as I’ve clocked-in thousands of blog posts that focus on technology.
But I can’t help myself.
I have to ask,
“What if…”
What If…
- What if we’ve become too focused on technology?
- What if technology has become an idol?
- What if we look to technology to solve our problems first, and God second?
- What if having a video projector, good lighting and a nice soundboard doesn’t matter?
- What if owning a smartphone enslaves someone?
- What if we’re doing it wrong?
- What if technology doesn’t intersect with the Church?
- What if…

I think we have to remind ourselves that technology is a tool first and foremost. As with anything else in life our focus should be on God and Jesus’ work at the cross. From there we decide how and where to use technology, money, and other resources. So the questions are quite valid if for no other reason than to make us think about how we do things. I think technology has had and will continue to have an intersection with the church. Without the technology of the printing press it would be a magnitude more difficult to reach others, teach effectively, and communicated on the grand scale we have.
Granted if we didn’t have it we would be challenged to engage the culture in a more face-to-face manner.
Good questions though. I struggle with them or the same ideas every time I find myself tweaking the pastor’s vocals to get just the ‘right sound’ less someone be distracted by what I perceive to be inadequate mixing.
