For me it’s turned in to a bonding time for my 3 year old son and I. I was a hardcore gamer growing up and once I got married it almost completely dropped off. Priorities shift though each stage of life and we have to be careful to watch where gaming fits in to those. Though gaming in marriage can happen if balanced well I found it very difficult and effectively stopped all together for quite a while. I’ve now found a happy medium and plan out the time to game in advance so my wife can have healthy expectation of my availability during that time.

I’m in the same boat with my son getting older, though he has not taken to any gaming I play. It’ll be interesting to watch and see what happens.

This sounds a lot like how things went for me—having to pull back and stuff. I am glad you figured out something that works for you and that is healthy for you and your family. Thumbs-up!

Although I don’t get as much time to play as I used to, gaming still is one of the most significant forms of media in my life. Television is fine and dandy, and I get through books from time to time, but some of the most important and thoughtful moments have come through video games. One such game was Last of Us. I wrote about my experience on my blog. Check it out!

Thanks for sharing that. I haven’t gotten into that game but hear good things

You definitely should! It was probably one of the best story-telling experiences of the past few years. Right up there with Red Dead Redemption.
Eric Dye says
Great post! I completely agree and have observed what you say about story-telling experiences. I am glad to hear about Red Dead Redemption—it’s on my Steam wish list! 😛
