FOMO stands for Fear of Missing Out and it is an acronym that has come about because of the social media craze. Several avid and power users on social media sites spend hours digging through the Internet, looking for the latest and greatest content out there. Some of this has been urged on by such sites as Digg that promote people that have the latest and greatest news, meaning that you always have to be on and looking for content. Others are motivated by their blogging stats, hoping to find that one nugget for today that will spike traffic to their site and maybe get them an extra advertiser on board.
Are People Sharing Too Much Online?
In the current generation of social media, texting, cell phones, and government’s prying eyes, it is a wonder if we have any secrets left to hold on to.
Unfortunately, the issue is more on the person than anyone else because they end up putting too much information online.
Just think about it: you go to the store and check-in on Foursquare, post a photo on Facebook of your favorite food, and tweet what you plan to have tonight for dinner.
Now the whole world knows your life, whether they care or plan to do something evil with it.

Facebook has always been about progress and a cutting edge network that leads the way in social media. But one thing has always remained, the Developer Platform. Sure, the API and structure of it has changed with the introduction of Facebook’s Timeline as well as the branding pages and security issues that have come up, but for the past five years, Facebook has realized that this network will not grow without a vibrant and robust group of companies that bring in the traffic. This can easily be seen just by Zynga who accounted for nearly one-quarter of Facebook’s revenue last year.
