Well-known Belgian singer and rapper Stromae has released a new videoclip for his song Carmen. It’s a doomsday tale of how Twitter starts out innocent, but then completely destroys your life.
The cute little bird turns into a heavy load, hampering friendships and relationships, and leading to loneliness. And everyone is under its influence. Even Queen Elizabeth and President Obama make a cameo!
According to this video, Twitter will kill you in the end…
Exaggerated? Absolutely.
But we can’t deny the core of truth this clip shows us. And it’s not just Twitter that’s influencing our lives in a major way; the same holds true for many social media and even our smartphones in general.
Here’s the video (with the English subtitles since I assume your French isn’t up to par…)

Powerful video! I can see how easily vain things (like how many ‘follow’ us or ‘like’ us) can affect our minds and souls. We must use wisely the amazing tools we have.
Rachel Blom says
Well said Ana!
Jared M says
well that was…weird…
That said, the video does make a good point in a strong way. I’ve gone through seasons of my life where I was constantly checking social media and caught it starting to consume my thoughts. Thankfully, I haven’t been thrown over a cliff by a giant bird into the mouth of an even larger bird only to be immediately pooped out. That seems like it would be a bad day.
Rachel Blom says
Artistic creativity, they call it, right? Yeah, let’s hope this never becomes literal reality!
Eric Dye says
Oh, dear…
…it’s already happening,..
Rachel Blom says
What, being thrown off a cliff by a giant Twitter Bird? 😉
