I love to download all of the free apps that iTunes offers to tinker around with them. Some times I get inspired by unique designs, other times I find out what does not work functionally. Unfortunately, I do not have extra cash to blow on the non-free apps to play with, thus I am up with this list. Maybe I will come across an extra iTunes card for Christmas or one of you guys want to give me one. Hopefully I will get to use all of these apps, but until then I will have these 5 apps at the top of my wishlist.
- Things ($9.99)
This app follows along with the popular desktop application that helps you organize your to-do lists, notes, and every other part of your life. The design is sleek and sexy yet highly functional. The $9.99 makes this the most expensive app on our wishlist, one big reason I have not yet taken a crack at it yet. But if the smart phone app is as good as its desktop counterpart, it probably is worth it for all of us unorganized people. - Zombies Run! ($7.99)
I am personally not a fan of exercising for the sake of exercising, but I love the idea of a game that you can only play if you run. This app is a running game and audio adventure where you defend your camp from zombies. Unfortunately (or the fit people would say fortunately), the only way to get supplies to defend yourself and progress through the story is to actually run. The longer, further, and faster you go, the more supplies you will receive for your base and find out what had happened here. Genius! - Bam Analytics ($1.99)
Of all of the items on this wishlist, this one is at the time. I am a Google Analytics nut, so this little app that can show you everything you want to know about your website may be the worst thing for my addiction. Everything that you can access online is at your fingertips on your mobile phone, making it more powerful as you will always have these stats at your side. - CodeToGo ($2.99)
I love programming and have always been curious how it would be to try to code on a smaller screen like a smart phone. I feel like it would be too hard to do, but I do not want to simply dismiss it because of a hunch. The CodeToGo app covers just about everything you would want to, including my favorites: PHP, C#, and SQL. If you write any kind of code, you might want to give this a try. - GarageBand ($4.99)
GarageBand is that fun little tool that everyone who first gets a Mac uses this app. After a little while, you either get bored or dive in deep. I was the latter. Most of the videos we create have their own GarageBand song so that we do not break copyright laws with the music. I have no delusions of my musical talent, but I would love to mess around with this app in my free time.
What other apps would you have in your top 5 apps wishlist?

I would pass on Things for iOS, mainly because I *have* Things for iOS and don’t use it. Sure, it is just as sleek and sexy as the desktop app, but it is a pain to use. My biggest issue is notifications: you can’t set them for each individual task. Instead, once a day you get notified what is due that day.
I use Wunderlist. It has very sleek desktop and iOS apps (as well as web app), has working cloud sync, and is free.

Thanks for letting us know. That is why it is on my wishlist and not my “plan to buy and play around with” list. Too expensive to not love the app.

Another app that I have had great success with on iOS is iMovies. You can film, edit, and publish an entire movie straight from your iPod/iPhone/iPad. So simple to use!

Love it! How long does it take to render the videos on the iOS device after several, maybe significant, edits?
Brandon Schmidt says
Good question. I haven’t put the app on a very heavy workload, like editing an hour long movie on it. I have used it to make several short videos (~1-2 minutes), using a few of the built-in templates. Doesn’t take much time at all. From my experience, iPad is much easier to edit with, but iPhone is easier to shoot video with.

If you do it, let me know. If it is quick, that might be the biggest and best part of the app.

Awesome list. I do want to try zombie run. It looks fun. I haven’t see bam analytics before, so I will have to check that app out.
As for wunderlist, one thing I hate about wunderlist is that you cannot set up recurring tasks. I personally want reminders each week.

Thanks for the info on the wunderlist. As for the other two apps, if you do use them, let me know what you think.
Brandon Schmidt says
Not being able to set up recurring tasks does stink, but I gladly use Wunderlist and set up tasks manually since it actually notifies me when I want and syncs to everything.
