I’m very excited about this book! The Smashing Book 2 is coming and if it’s anything like the first one, it will strike the perfect balance of design theory, code, and usability techniques.
Here is a quick look at all topics covered.
- The Principles of Great Graphic Design
- Visible vs. Invisible Design [download preview chapter]
- Designing Mobile User Experiences
- Sketching, Wireframing and Prototyping
- Red Flags in Web Development
- The Future of Web Typography
- Game Design Techniques Applied to UX Design
- When They Click: The Psychology of Web Design
- Design Patterns on E-Commerce Websites
- How to Make a Book
Applying game design to web user interfaces? Yes, please. Mobile UI? Sign me up. Oh, and I’m especially eager to read what they have to say about how to make a book. Here is a group of respected industry artisans that have taken the creme de la creme of their expertise from a blog to a book in order to reach a much greater audience. We really dig that sort of thing around these parts.
Now, here is something pretty neat. They had too much content for the book so instead of making the book bigger, thereby increasing shipping and material costs, they kept the chapters lean and meaty by stuffing all the overflow material in an eBook titled The Lost Files. Buy the hardback, the eBook is included. Value!
The book starts shipping in February, but I’m pre-ordering mine today.
