Test Your Server to See if it Can Handle the Stress

loadimpact

One of the worst things that can happen is when you get that huge spike of traffic and your site goes down because your server is sucking wind.

A friend of mine, Cheryl Smith, has resorted to using her Posterous to keep the world up to date, all because her service provider has decided to take a vacation apparently.

Don’t let that happen to you! What a shame! Losing all that valuable “Link Juice” from her post!

LoadImpact.com is a service I’ve used in the past to help me gauge how good a server is. There’s a lot involved in these tests, and it’s best to do a couple of times, but it’ll give you a good idea of how your service will handle the hit.

You can see my results above, which is the optimal graph that should be presented. If you want some similar results (and you’re a decent-sized blog) take a look at MediaTemple.net and tell them I sent you. I’m on their (DV) Extreme system with 4GB of RAM.

4GB RAM enough to save you if you were to get Slash-dotted?
