Sunday Special QA No. 25

It’s that time again…! Sunday’s a good day to take it easy.

I’ve decided that on Sundays I’m not going to do any blogging except for a very simple post series called “The Sunday Special” where you get to ask me anything.

You can ask about me about web technology, WordPress, blogging, what I ate for breakfast… whatever.

I can’t promise that I’ll answer all of your questions, but feel free to answer each other’s questions as well.

I’ll try to answer all the questions throughout the coming week.

Simple enough, right? Go.

Ok, I'm about to unleash my worship backgrounds on the world. I've been working on the site and the direction it's headed looks great IMHO. Quite frankly, it's a similar layout as northpointonline.tv (i.e. header, big video box, then two columns under it, basic footer). The site is going to be 6 static pages plus a blog, and some sort of payment solution (Not sure what, as I'll only have one product for a while. I was thinking maybe just paypal, but there seems to be problems with google analytics tracking conversions. Any suggestions?). I'm comfortable with HTML and CSS, but not so much with PHP. I've got all the code for the front page done except for placing the two columns below the video box.

Sent it to a friend Friday night, and he pops up on chat telling me that I'm crazy to be writing all the code. He said that I should be using wordpress for the whole thing. My objections are 1. I don't want it looking like a blog (I know it doesn't have to, but like I said, I'm not very comfortable with PHP) and 2. Why bother? I'm almost done with it, and it's 6 static pages. They may never change.

    Here's a screen of what I've got so far…
    http://videoworshipbackgrounds.com/website-previe… (two columns photoshopped in)

So what do you think? Should I keep going with my current CSS design or start from scratch in WordPress? What payment solution would you recommend?

Oh, and one last question… How's the photography coming?

    Seriously, thanks for any help.

      Daniel,

Just wanted you to know that I've seen this and I'm not ignoring it… I'm just super busy and want to give the idea the time it deserves…

      dude. you're awesome.

sorry for taking so long to answer this. you can take any CSS and throw that into wordpress. Making the markup isn't that hard, so changing psd's into wordpress is typical.

Why did you spend your entire weekend flying to Austin and then driving back to the ATL?
Does not sound like fun at all.

Why does WordPress chop the sides off my pictures when I upload them?

      that's interesting… check your media settings…?

it shouldn't unless you have a particular script hacking your photos via the theme.

hmm, that's interesting. might be a setting.
