Speed, Expectations, Technology and God

Sometimes I think the speed at which we communicate can sometimes cause us to have unrealistic expectations when it comes to receiving desired information from others.

With the multitude of devices and sites at my disposal I know that I have been put off a time or two when someone seems to ignore my question or idea.

Especially when I am operating under a tight deadline.

I sometimes have to take a step back and remind myself that just because we CAN communicate more quickly than in the past, doesn’t mean it always happens on my time table.

Sounds a little bit too close to our expectations of God at times, right?

What about you? Do you get impatient more often with the technology of today?

Fact: This summer we don’t have wifi at the house…I’m literally going to be doing ^this^ every day for the next three months.

Good luck and God Speed! Very brave to go without Wi-Fi!

No. And why haven’t you answered my question from last week?

    j/k

Yeah- I see that. A friend recently asked what I would do without my iPhone for a day. I repeated the question back to him (very political of me I think) to which he answered that he’d be fine. And I said that was the problem- because he doesn’t use his iPhone like I use mine. See?

    Wait a minute….

I love this cartoon! I do get impatient waiting for people to reply to emails, especially when I really want an answer to something (want being the operative word there).

Is anyone actually happier with all the instant communication? Not more productive, not feeling superior, but actually happier? Jesus went out to the desert for entire days to pray to stay on course – isn’t he supposed to be our example?

This is true. We have microwaves, e-mail, and airplanes. All this is good, but it can cause us to expect God to show up when WE want Him to. To answer a prayer the way WE think it should be answered. I wondered if God looks down and says, “Have you read the Bible, lately? It does say that I am God. I answer when I want to and how I want to.” Great post.
