Someone Please Explain GodRev.com

godrev_logoSomeone please explain what GodRev.com is because I apparently am clueless.

After mining the “flow” for a bit I found pretty much nothing of interest except this tool that shows “Real-time Decisions for Jesus Christ“.

I did some digging and found that they are famous in France, India, Norway, and Turkey… and USA is somewhere in there as well. Their traffic isn’t too shabby either.

god_rev_statsTake a look at this screeny for a shot [click thumb].

So what’s driving it all? Where’s it all coming from and going to? I’m confounded!

Apparently, Joyce Meyer’s also owns the streets, so you better watch out on their digg-like board.

Ah… I found something:

GodRev’s vision is to use the latest technology to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ worldwide, in partnership with Christian organizations and churches.

We also want to become the top Christian content provider, in each of these languages, by using cutting edge information and communication technology. By attracting and retaining visitors, we can expose them to the best message available to mankind on or off the Internet – Jesus Christ.

So, have you used them?  Are you partnering with them?

Do you feel like the are fulfilling their “Mission and Vision”?

GodRev is a project started by Eric Célérier, a Campus Crusade guy who also created TopChretien.com (the "top Christian" website in France). I met Eric several years ago through the Internet Evangelism Coalition, and Andrew Jones recently blogged about Eric and his many online ventures here:

Eric is a visionary guy who was "doing the stuff" long before he linked up with Campus Crusade, BTW. He has a beautiful heart and a passion for seeing people follow Jesus.

Hope this helps explain a little …

i had noticed that site … the real time decisions part was intriguing of course. But they're not transparent in saying how they are gathering that info or how they define a decision for Christ, so its credibility is damaged as a result. They should fix that …

I totally cut and paste (and edited) my comments from Andrew's blog.

I worked with a denominational evangelism referral service (call this number for more info about Jesus type of thing) about 5 years ago. I had a number of churches that didn't want any names because such a high percentage were cranks, patients in mental hospitals, etc. I frequently had to go outside the denomination (against policy) because I couldn't find a church willing to follow up. (I won't say the denomination). I had a number of instances of the name already being regular attenders of the local church. It is not that I am completely opposed to using media or mass markets for evangelism, but it is so rarely effective. People like it because it is flashy, but the real work of evangelism is rarely flashy.

Different communities and different Christians have different needs. So maybe this is serving a need for encouragement somewhere. What I have found is that too often Christians are willing to "exaggerate the results" to encourage others. I am not assuming that is what is going on here, but our trust and encouragement should come from Christ, not some numbers.

I will say that I don't know Eric but I do have friends that are missionaries in France that have spoken positively about TopChretien.com
