Socialcast has been around for bit, first starting in 2005. Calling itself a “simple, secure, and free collaboration tool,” it aims to help businesses and their employees communicate more effectively.

Thanks for this. My wife runs the KidsZone (0-5) ministry (in keeping with the idea I passed along from Andy Stanley to our church leadership to not use the word "nursery" when describing the ministry as it is associated with "babysitting" and people are less likely to want to volunteer) and it's ridiculous how she has to communicate with her volunteers. It's all phone calls, emails and yes even snail mail. There's no cohesiveness to it. I've been trying to nudge them into using something like this for more effective communication.

i need a bigger toolbox
I really like this idea, but I'm wondering if Google Wave is going to fill this role. We already use Google Apps as our platform for email/docs/calendar sharing, from the I.T. perspective that means less training necessary if Wave satisfies this need.
