In the age of the Internet, we have all taken steps to protect ourselves. Our passwords are private, eight characters long, and include an alphabetical, numerical, and special character for protection. We do not click the email from someone in Africa that wants to give us hundreds of thousands of dollars. We even make sure that we have a secure HTTP connection on all financial transaction websites.
Yet, even with all of this, we still could be leaving ourselves wide open in the area of privacy. The context is within social media and not everything is within our control.
Because of these friends that take inappropriate pictures of us, leaving crude comments, or simply being a bad friend, we have to take actions to protect ourselves.
There are a few things to take from the infographic below to protect ourselves on sites like Twitter and Facebook.
- You need to put all of your social media settings to a position that does not leave you to be exposed.
- Be vigilant about what you and your friends post.
- Consequences may need to be as severe as unfriending or blocking people who may take offense to it.
