Social media is very necessary for businesses, youth groups, and bloggers, but the question is,
“should it always be on?”
This sense that we need to be connected, what drives it? If we are honest, we want to be in the know and so many times we are interrupted by a tweet, Facebook comment, or Google+ +1 really is nothing more than a simple thing that we can address later. Unfortunately, the mental penalty of a random distraction can be very costly to our life.
Here are some of the highlights from the infographic below:
- We have over 4 interruptions per hour, which in and of itself is not much, but coupled with the fact that 40% of disrupted tasks were not immediately resumed is bad.
- 28% of the day is spent on interruptions and recovery time and the average time it takes to get back to the assigned task is 23 minutes.
- The cost of interruptions to the American economy could be as much as $650 billion dollars a year.
How do you deal with social media distractions, if at all?
