I’ve been using Alfred for several months, now, and it has become a must have app in my opinion. In fact, I love it so much, I’m surprised the concept hasn’t been implement into OS X. Yeah, I know there’s Spotlight and everything, but believe me when I say, Alfred is way better.
The concept of avoiding the jump from keyboard to mouse and trackpad to keyboard is one that’s grown over the months of using Alfred. That’s why this cool new app called, Shortcat, really caught my eye:
Shortcat
It’s currently in beta, but that’s not going to stop me from giving it a try!
Here’s some case uses for Shortcat and an introductory video:
- Jumping between channels in Textual
- Jumping between chats in Skype
- Clicking links in chat programs
- Changing settings in System Preferences
- Switching tabs in Chrome or Safari
- Browsing the web in Safari
- And whatever you can think of!

Keep in mind that I love my Magic Mouse. Before I had one, I thought it was crazy someone would pay $70 for a mouse. Now I know why someone would pay $70 for a mouse!!!
Even still, I like the idea of keeping my hands on the keyboard and saving those few seconds I lose when jumping back and forth, time and time again, all day long.
