While my Facebook is continually being filled with anti-Fifty Shades of Grey messages (by people like this I suppose), I can’t help but wonder if in the Church’s effort to spread warning about this film (and book), we are actually giving it more promotion and driving more curiosity towards it.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, there are no shades of grey surrounding a problem that has infiltrated the Church far before Erika Mitchell ever penned a line.
It’s called pornography, the likes of which has yet to hit the Hollywood big screen.
Did you know that:
“Eight in ten (79%) men between the ages of 18 and 30 view pornography monthly.”
Sure.
That makes sense.
But this is what statistically won’t surprise you:
“The number of Christian men viewing pornography virtually mirrors the national average.”
I say, “statistically won’t surprise you” because statistically, a majority of the men reading this have viewed pornography this month.
Men who sit in pews every Sunday. Lead people in prayer. Lead congregations in worship. Teach Sunday school. Write blog posts. Share scripture on Twitter. And sometimes—write blog posts about pornography.
There’s no grey area here, fellas.
We’ve got a problem.
A serious problem.
Pornography is connected to online sex trafficking and it isn’t just religious reasons we should consider as we approach this cancerous epidemic.
We have already covered the topic of pornography on ChurchMag a lot before, but where do we go from here?
Do we start, join or fund a grassroots “awareness” campaign?
I don’t know about you, but I think we’re all fully aware of the problem of porn.
So what’s the next step?
Has blogging about on ChurchMag helped you or others?
Ladies and gentleman, I want to do more—I’ve gone dormant on this subject for a while.
What do you think?
