Perspective is overlooked, ironically.
Although this image (picture above) is certainly a great illustration of the role of perspective in our lives, I think this viral video portrays it even more so:

“The Guardian’s award-winning ‘Skinhead’ commercial was screened in 1986 and features a skinhead who appeared to be wrestling a man’s briefcase from his hands. But the camera then cuts and viewers see that he is in fact trying to rescue the man from falling bricks”
The power of perspective.

I’ve wrote about the importance of perspective before… this is a great illustration that goes right along with it! Thanks Eric!

I write a newsletter each Sunday for our small country church and try to tie everyday life into scripture. My life seems to be full of things that I can use as illustrations. However, I was thinking about perspective and how it has changed the way I look at my leg after I was accidentally shot with an SKS assault rifle 16 months ago. Although the Dr. was adamant about taking my leg off, I was just as adamant about trying to save it. Though badly mangled, the Dr. agreed to do what he could. After 37 days in the hospital and 6 surgeries, I came home with my badly scarred leg. Every dr visit, he would comment how beautiful my leg was and I would always say how ugly it was and I would never wear a pair of shorts or a bathing suit again. But after much thought I began to look at that leg through his eyes. He had performed nothing short of a miracle with God’s help on that leg and he had seen the mangled mess shortly after it happened. As I was looking at the deep scars and discolored skin, he was looking at the beautiful work that had been just to keep the leg. I now look at my leg and think of the work the surgeon put into saving it and the work that God did in restoring the leg so that I could keep it and it would be useful again. It changed my perspective and I thank God for my “beautiful” leg and the scars that have become a medal for a battle fought and won. Better still, I can walk on the leg and although I will probably always limp, just walking on it is another miracle. I am a survivor and i owe it all to my Heavenly Father who not only saved my leg but changed my perspective to see the beauty and blessings He has given me from an almost fatal tragedy. Thank you Jesus for your blessings on me!
