You can now build a mobile, multiplatform app using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript!
PhoneGap is the only open source mobile framework that supports six platforms.
This is awesome.

PhoneGap is an HTML5 app platform that allows you to author native applications with web technologies and get access to APIs and app stores. PhoneGap leverages web technologies developers already know best… HTML and JavaScript.
This is how PhoneGap works:
1. Build your app based on web-standards
PhoneGap is based on HTML5, so it uses the technologies most developers already know best: HTML and JavaScript.
2. Wrap it with PhoneGap
Simply use the free open source framework or PhoneGap build and get access to native APIs.
3. Deploy!
Using standard based webs technologies, PhoneGap bridges web applications and mobile devices.
With PhoneGap, you can:
PhoneGap is an open source implementation of open standards. That means developers and companies can use PhoneGap for mobile applications that are free, commercial, open source, or any combination of these. The PhoneGap project will always remain free and open source under an MIT license.
I am seriously impressed with PhoneGap. I believe this is on the cutting edge of mobile technology and is certainly the direction mobile technology is taking us. Mixing current web standards and integrating them into mobile tech, thus, eliminating a closed system. I like it!
With this kind of tool available, building a Church app has never been easier.

Has anyone built an app successfully with PhoneGap or Titanium? Maybe you can alleviate some of my concerns. I just completed my first IPhone App using Objective C, and found that Apple is very meticulous about the code you write. Especially memory usage. My biggest worry with applications like PhoneGap is that they might not write clean code. If the code is not clean, it can make managing the app difficult, and can increase the chances that you will have devastating memory leaks that can eventually crash your app. This reminds me of DreamWeaver back in the day. It would add style tags like “style1”, “style2”, and “style3” which is very difficult to understand and maintain. DreamWeaver would also bloat the code with unnecessary tags.
Another concern is how often does PhoneGap update their tools. How long before you have access to IOS 5 stuff. Also, how can you write code for a feature on the IPhone that won’t work on Android? Does the software provide tools for that.
Would love to hear your thoughts. Take care.

I’ve just made my church site: http://www.minehead-baptist.com very mobile friendly using ‘adapt’. I choose to go that way rather than doing an app…

Very nice work, James.
