Our family read the Paddington Bear books together as a family.
It was great fun.
So when we heard about the new Paddington Bear movie releasing this year, we were very excited to see what the big screen had to offer. Sure, it might not live-up to our expectations, but we figured it would still be fun. After all, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beezus and Ramona, and Matilda—to name a few—did an excellent job porting from the page to the big screen.
So how is Paddington going to fair?
Paddington — Official Trailer
Paddington is rated PG—but that’s hardly a surprise.
Many decent family films are rated as such—’infrequent scenes of dangerous behavior’—but that isn’t what really caught my attention.
What really caught my attention was what the creator of Paddington Bear—age 88—had to say about the film’s ‘mild sex references’ that have been dialed back by the rating system to ‘innuendo’:
“I am totally amazed. I’d be very upset. I might not sleep well tonight. I can’t imagine what the sex references are . It doesn’t enter into it with the books, certainly.”
Can you imagine?
The creator of Paddington ‘might not sleep well tonight?’
I don’t know if this will be a movie that you can enjoy with the entire family, but I do know this should be a warning to artists everywhere:
Be careful who you allow stewardship over your creation.
