OpenDNS: Cloud-Based Internet Security

OpenDNS is a cloud-based Internet security that is free and easy to use.

A few months ago I was having some web issues (turned-out it was on the server end and not mine) and Tom recommended I use OpenDNS.

It was free, easy to setup, and I’ve been using it ever since.

If you want to increase your Internet security without a lot of IT knowledge and no hardware, this is solid solution.

OpenDNS

As a single user, OpenDNS is completely free. I’ve got stats on all of my web usage, blocked sites, etc …

If my wife wanted to, she could see all of my Internet usage. These stats are pre browser.

It looks like there may be some scaled pricing depending on the organization size, so I would recommend diving all in and setting yourself and /or Church with OpenDNS. Consider cost when you get to that bridge, if you do at all. Considering that the OpenDNS solutions for small and medium businesses are free, you should be in the clear.

OpenDNS is the leading provider of Internet security and DNS Services

  • Industry leading malware and botnet protection
  • Award winning web filtering
  • Faster, reliable, more secure DNS
  • Ultra-reliable, globally distributed cloud network
  • Simple, Smart, Easy

The stats and logs available in your dashboard include:

  • Total Requests
  • Total Unique Domains
  • Unique IPs
  • Domains
  • Blocked Domains
  • Request Types

Yeah. It’s good. I like it.

Sign up, download, install, and you’re ready to surf the web faster, more reliably and with phishing protection.

Check it out!

Do you use OpenDNS?

Tell me what you think about it!

Use it all the time. The blocked domains (filters in a fashion) help keep everyone honest. Particularly with volunteers on a otherwise open machine.

hey, just a heads up — a couple times recently I’ve liked what you wrote about, but can’t find a link to click on. like in this story — no link to opendns.com. it’d be nice :-)
