As someone who’s made themselves available for freelancing over the past several years, I’ve tried a number of different outsourcing platforms.
Which of these have you tried? What was your experience?
For the most part, I’ve found these to be a waste of time and establishing online relationships and networks to be far more effective.
Here’s a look at oDesk vs Elance vs Freelancer vs 99designs — but I really want to hear from you!

Every time I’ve tried to use one of these types of systems, I’m left with the feeling that they’re the only one making any money.
What has your experience been like?

I’ve thus far held off using sites like 99 designs because it seems like there is a lot of people doing a lot of work with little to no chance of actually making money.

You mentioned them being a waste of time and establishing online relationships and networks to be far more effective. Would you mind sharing some of your go to resources when contracting work out?
Eric Dye says
Establishing connections within social media (the usual suspects) and blogging. It gets your name out there and builds SEO, as well as some confidence in those who know you. Perhaps these ‘lancer’ sites work for some, but like I said, it’s been no-go for me.

I’m a blogger and web developer. I’m on freelance and done already some freelance jobs with those sites- oDesk, Elance and SEOClerks, of the three SEOClerks is far more advance and better, well-established, nice navigation.
Eric Dye says
I’ll have to check it out, Thanks!

Are you talking from the freelancer side? Or the hiring sign?
As someone who frequently uses outsource talent, oDesk has been a good source for me recently. From the buy side, it definitely is great to have marketplaces with such competition, and platforms that have tools for portfolios, feedback etc.

From the freelancer side. Great feedback, Kenny! Thanks. 🙂
