I know that I’m not. Not in the slightest.
Thank the Lord. But, I know that many are. In fact, many of the High School boys I mentor would literally perish without it.

I honestly feel bad for the folks who are part of that demographic.
I watched a screener of The Social Network last night and loved it! Never have loved Facebook itself though. It just drudges up past relationships or friendships that are just that – past. And if you use it to communicate to your friends – CALL THEM!
Just my rant for the day!
This made me realize I have moved to a new age demographic this year. I feel old.
So the question, then, is: what do we do with this information?
Do we “feel bad” for the demographics? Do we instead look at it as a huge marketing opportunity? Do we consider it just a huge fad that will go away (eventually)? Do we get inspired by it’s remarkable growth and see that even a 20-something year old can create something that changes the world?
I can see possibilities in each of these. For myself, I’ve considered getting off of it several times. But then I see it as a pathway to reach old friends for Christ through my blog posts or other “soft” ways of witnessing.
At the same time, I also find myself probably spending too much time on it. It’s a challenge to find that proper balance.
Like it, hate it, indifferent . . . you cannot just dismiss Facebook’s influence on the lives of the generations that are on it.
Absolutely, Joe. I don’t “feel bad” for these demographics, because the people who use facebook are not pathetic losers as some believe. For me, I have had relatively no contact with my mother’s side of the family because we are on opposite sides of the country. Until facebook, I barely knew them – trips and phone calls were much to expensive, so I only talked to my grandparents occasionally. Because of facebook, not only can I chat with my grandparents, but also much-missed cousins, as well as friends (I’ve moved 3 times in 8 years) without spending a dime. Additionally, my parents and my in-laws, both who live over 12 hours away by car, get to see pictures and hear stories about my three kids on a regular basis.
Do I think someone should “feel bad” for me because I spend time with my family on facebook? Definitively no. Facebook has been a wonderful way for my family to get together when there was no other feasible way.
Also, I completely agree that facebook is a wonderful marketing opportunity – for whatever you sell. My business has grown tremendously using social marketing on facebook, and nearly any Marketing expert worth his salt will tell you that social marketing is not only less expensive, it is more efficient at providing solid leads and loyal customers.
Anyway, all that to say that I agree with you that facebook has an incredible amount of influence on the world today, and with good reason!
