The Numbers of Internet Use

November 24, 2014 by Eric Dye

Internet Users in the World Graph

Internet Live Stats is a fun website that provides realtime data on Internet users in the world, along with some other cool data.

It’s amazing to see Internet use climb higher and higher.

You would think that it would eventually level out or maybe even slow-down a little, but alas, it continues to grow more and more every year.

Internet Live Stats

Internet Users - Live Stats ScreenshotInternet Live Stats not only breaks down the number of Internet users in the world by region and country, but also provides the number of:

  • Websites
  • Emails
  • Google Searches
  • Blog Posts Written
  • Tweets Sent
  • Videos Views
  • Photos Uploaded to Instagram
  • Tumbles
  • Facebook Users
  • Google+ Users
  • Twitter Users
  • Pinterest Users
  • Skype Calls made
  • Websites hacked
  • And even how many devices have been sold and energy used!

It’s pretty amazing to see these number race higher and higher—and the total only represents one day!?!

I did notice this curious bit:

On the Internet Today - Screener

Even with all of these new mediums of communicating only, emails rule the day (however, I would be curious to see emails opened and not just sent).

Click around, have some fun, Internet Live Stats is pretty cool. 😀

It’s websites like these that kill my blogging efficiency. Too cool, great find!

How trustworthy do you think these stats are? No references given, only a claim of “an advanced algorithm in order to derive an estimate that is as accurate as possible.”

I call bluff. What do you think?

I agree, it’s certainly not like an ACTUAL counter or anything. I think the overall lesson remains despite the accuracy—but ‘bluff?’ Maybe.

I think they’re bluffing about the “advanced algorithm”. I think they gathered a bunch of stats and just put them in without regard to legitimacy– which is why they’re not citing their sources.
