What does your creative space sound like?
It turns out that coffee shops are known for being a great place for productivity, not because of the caffeine, but because of the noise levels. When I first started working from home, I thought that some sort of silence or quiet was the ideal volume.
I was wrong.
Over time, experience, and even science, I’ve learned the importance of having background noise.
That’s why I love this cool web app, Noisli:
Noisli
Noisli turns background noise into a science. The simple and fresh interface lets you select a number of various background noises—I love the nature sounds:
But Noisli doesn’t stop there. You can select multiple sounds at once, creating some interesting combinations:
You can also adjust the volume of each sound, giving you the chance to build some curiously dynamic background mixes.
With this free online app, you can even click on the writing icon to open up the distraction free writing interface!
Cool, right!?!
The background also changes color, giving a subtle and calming effect. From the editing screen you can adjust your volume, switch back over to your background ‘mixing board,’ view what you’ve typed (Noisly supports Markdown), and download it to your local computer in a handy .txt file:
I didn’t use the editor—I prefer using the Hemingway Editor—but I did enjoy using the background noise generator today. 🙂
If you fall in love with Noisli and enjoy using it as background noise generator, you might want to consider the iOS version:
Noisli iOS App
As you can see in the screenshots above, the iOS app allows you to save custom mixes and even set a timer. This could be really cool synced with an external speaker system for sleeping at night and a no-brainer for those who often throw on some headphones.
Learn more, try it out, and grab the iOS download link on the Noisli website.
