I thought this was a pretty cool feature. Perhaps you only need a reference for a day or short period of time, the 24-hour and 30-day access is a nice ‘renting’ type of option. The 30-day access is especially handy for many of the Christian Living titles.

One of the most impressive collections has to offer is the Holman Old & New Testament Commentary Series.

The whole 32-volume set!

The Holman Old & New Testament Comentary Series is:

A respected reference that helps you learn and teach! In addition to providing a detailed interpretation based on the popular NIV text, this commentary also offers choice quotations, capsule summaries, discussion starters, illustrations for openers and closers, teaching plans, and more. Preachers, teachers, and students will appreciate the unsurpassed clarity and convenience of this affordable set. Complete series of thirty-two Old and New Testament verse-by-verse commentary volumes is great for lay teachers and pastors alike.

As much as I like YouVersion (especially with the mobile sync), I will be using this to replace  my desktop Bible study software for my studying. Not quick, daily scripture reading, but the “sit-down-and-study-the-Word-of-God” kind of Bible study.

The search functions, note taking, bookmarks, resources, all of it – all under one online app – is awesome.

Goodbye desktop version.

Wow! that sounds awesome. Trying to store all those commentaries is quite a challenge! I generally use Youversion as well, but this looks awesome!

    Thanks for sharing! @adam_e_parker

  2. Tim Graves says

Honestly, my favorite feature is the free part, with the option to ‘rent’ or buy specific resources being available. Second favorite would have to be the ability to read two translations in parallel, as well as additional translations/resources in extra tabs.

  3. Kris says

I preach from the HCSB every week and have enjoyed the website lately. I like having the study notes and cross references online since I use Google Docs to type up my messages. Great tool! Thanks for the opportunity!

Glad everyone is enjoying the site!

First, let me say a huge thank you to Eric for this post; it is incredibly humbling to hear such nice words about our site.

I’m one of the leads on the site and just wanted say hi to all the commenters here. I would absolutely LOVE to get your thoughts and opinions on the site once you’ve used it for a few days. Please don’t hesitate to send ideas, suggestions or – if you find any – issues to my email: [email protected]

    Thanks, and enjoy the site!

I appreciate that I can see this through a browser and also the real-time original word meanings. Add in the different translations and it’s a pretty powerful Bible reader.

  8. Michael A says

I love the HCSB! I wish it got the same regonition as the ESV as a great translation of the Bible. The website is amazing and FREE! Need I say more???

  9. says

The first purchase I made when I started working with youth was to buy a Holman Dictionary and Handbook. Unfortunately, my dog liked it more than I did and chewed it up :-(

I would really love to have access to their great commentary set. From what I’ve seen, they do a great job mixing theological truth with practical application. Thanks for the opportunity

  10. says

Sweet collection. I’ve been in the process of collecting titles digitally – I don’t think I can pack up and move all my books, ever, again. What a headache!

  11. Daniel Ashworth, Jr. says

Thanks for offering the HCSB up free online. It looks like an excellent study tool. I just discovered it because of a blog post sharing this giveaway and I plan to be a regular visitor for future studies.

Very beautiful. I have been trying to decide on a new commentary and saw the physical version and I am impressed on how well done the digital one is. Thank you for sharing!

I’ve been using for several months now, and have been pretty impressed at how the site continues to grow! It’s a tremendously useful online application, a definite competitor for the ESV Study Bible Online.

  15. says

man, I love! This could allow me to do a lot of Bible study and research after we move to Germany to be missionaries without having to ship over my commentary sets. This would be awesome!

  16. Naomi Sills says

I manage the bookstore in our church. Our pastor recentley made the decision to change our pew bibles to hcsb. I have 18 yrs experience in the christian book stores, and sold many bibles during those years. The NIV translation was by far the most popular until , I added the HCSB bible to my inventory.I have really studied about this bible, and studied in it as well. Very impressed and the ease of the print makes for easy reading. It is now the most popular sold bible in my store. I thank God and his scholars for this wonderful bible!!!!!
