My Personal Experience with YouVersion on Android

I have a confession to make: I don’t like taking my bible to church.

I like taking notes during the sermon but attempts to keep a bible open along with a small notebook can be very frustrating at times.

So I’ve moved toward a more mobile and easier to manage bible: YouVersion.

The team at LifeChurch.tv have done an excellent job with this app and the fact that they have rolled it out to so many different platforms has been very encouraging.

Installation on my Motorola Droid was a snap and when my pastor started to read from Romans 1, I was able to quickly follow along.

All of the features that make YouVersion such a great app are included, such as multiple versions to read from:

There are reading plans and even the ability to bookmark specific verses:

Those verses can then be shared very easily to Twitter and/or Facebook:

Additional features include YouVersion Live, community groups, and contributions. It’s terrific stuff.

Do you have the YouVersion app installed on your mobile device? Which one?

Love my YouVersion for Android App. Kind of wish there was a way to save your translation to the SD card or something similar to the iPhone’s. I use this at church full-time now.

I get reception at church, but sometimes it is weak and can be a little slow. Would help me a lot if I had a way to view ‘offline’. But honestly, best Bible app hands down.

Offline translations are coming for Android ;-)

Thankfully, I have the code to the church’s wi-fi access so even if the 3G signal is weak I still have the other access to count on. :)

Glad you like the app Jay! I’m in the same boat, I’d rather not have to carry my Bible to church, and since I always have my iPhone, YouVersion is a perfect fit for me.

Exactly. My wife uses it too and others are always asking about it and downloading it as well.

I love having a printed bible… but I also love not taking it to Church.

That’s a nice way to think about it, I do still love reading from printed books, namely the Bible.

Same here. Better yet, since I don’t bring it to church, there is never the risk that I will leave it church. Dual win!

Very true! If you ever have any issues or questions about it, feel free to hit me up, I’d love to help!

I always take my Bible to church with me on Sunday mornings, but I usually end up using the YouVersion Bible on my DROID during small group Bible discussions. That’s when I enjoy popping back and forth between various translations… it always adds to the discussion.

    Nice overview Jay!

I run YouVersion on my Hero and love it. Our young adults ministry runs YV Live for our services, so its awesome being able to follow along and take notes inline right on my phone. Not to mention the search and share features are crucial!
