Have You Visited the Museum of Endangered Sounds?

Museum of Endangered Sounds

YES! This is so awesome!

I’m a sucker for sound design and this online museum of “endangered sounds” – brilliant name btw — simply tickled my ears.

Listen to:

  • The old Nokia ring.
  • Television static.
  • AOL dail-up.
  • Windows 95 boot-up.
  • Starting a VHS tape.
  • More!

Created by Brendan Chilcutt, his future plan for this online museum is as such:

My ten-year plan is to complete the data collection phase by the year 2015, and spend the next seven years developing the proper markup language to reinterpret the sounds as a binary composition.

This should be fun to check back to ever so often. I can’t wait to see what else he adds!

Check it out!

What’s your favorite endangered sound or what sound would you like to see added to the museum?

As we move more and more towards digital, that unmistakeable pop and hiss of a turntable needle is heard less and less…
