Mozilla, JavaScript, & Keeping Themselves Honest

In terms of browser performance, JavaScript is key. After all, more applications are beginning to base huge components of their user interface and even part of their data layer on functionality offered by the platform.

That’s why the major browser vendors are so focused on optimizing their JavaScript engines. Sure, some are faster than others. But Mozilla has decided to keep themselves honest.

I thought the 8BIT IT geeks would get a kick out of this (or maybe I’m just alone in my weirdness?)…

Are We Fast Yet? is a site that publishes the benchmarks of various engines and their performance.

Their FAQ states that these engines are being benchmarked via the command-line and that they’re looking to target the mobile version of Firefox.

Love this kind of stuff.

This type of thing just comes as part of an open culture. That is why I love free and open source software…because openness isn’t just about the source code…

      Definitely.

The open-source culture has always been fun hang out around. I was much closer to it when I was in college than now (but that’s more due to time and other responsibilities than anything else ;) ).
