I always thought that meetings were a good thing, no matter what.
Then I experienced them.
Meetings can be inefficient, unstructured, and a waste of money. Imagine, 1 person at a 10 person meeting is 10 minutes late. You factor the salary of those in attendance and how much you waste? (Just $20/hour x 10 minutes late by one person x 10 people in the meeting = $40 wasted. Take it out of their salary?)
But the ability to see people, find company with others, and receive that face-to-face encouragement, almost makes it worth it.
Almost.
(Of course, then there is Slack, that totally disrupts the idea of meetings, but that’s for another day.)
Here are my three favorite states from the infographic below:
- The average meeting is 36 minutes. (Assuming you meet on time.)
- Meetings increase during bad weather. (Misery loves company?)
- Weekend meetings are becoming more popular. (No thank you.)
What are your views on meetings?
