Could this be the very thing that puts Windows Mobile on the map?
Microsoft filed the patent in 2010 and was published this past week by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Offices.
The patent is for a second screen on the rear of the phone. However, it isn’t exactly like Nokia’s concept from last year:

Unlike Nokia’s “all-screen” approach, Microsoft’s back screen would be something like the e-ink you see on the Amazon kindle.
There’s a lot of cool possibilities with a second screen. Instead of shopping around for a cool phone case, you could just download a skin. Displaying things like the time, battery level, etc … could be cool, too.
However, considering how far behind Microsoft is in the smartphone race, it’s going to take a greater leap of tech development than this.
