Meatspace Monday 3 – Holiday Edition

Today’s Meatspace Monday is more of a reflection about the upcoming season that we’re quickly moving into.

As we move into XMas and the “giving holiday” of the year, perhaps we can again take the guilty road of thinking about all that money that we spend on each other and instead think of other creative ways to-do-what-we-normally-do-and-not-feel-so-guilty.

But, of course, that’s not really the point.

For me personally, this is the first time where I’ve come into the season with a fresh-pair of internet eyes.  Yes, oh yes, those “internet eyes”…

(What the heck does that really mean anyways?  … I just made that up.)

A’la something along the lines of Advent Conspiracy, I propose that we, as the internet paragon of techno-evangelists make sure that we begin planning something different with the way we use our blogs this Christmas Season.

What does that look like?  I’m not too sure.  But I know that instead of posting up the 1,000+ flickr albums of your family opening gifts and stuffing their faces with yummy yummy food, perhaps blogging with a little bit of purpose and maybe reaching out to someone less fortunate (but obviously not unfortunate to not have the internets).

Be creative, and share your thoughts.  This one’s one of those “you can’t really be wrong” type scenarios (unless your really just planning on the flickr spewage).

So, start planning now… just like you’re already planning on buying all those gifts last-second, right?

I wonder if we could create something like that as a sort of idea where you spend one day blogging about something outside of your area in service to someone else. Maybe it raises awareness about the poor or the persecuted. Maybe it works to raise money for an organization.

I think I may try it on my blog and see if I can get something consistent to work out. It would be a fun experiment.

Blogging with a purpose… I like that. A lot of us most often think about blogging with a purpose: making money, being successful, etc. I think this purpose is very important and should not be forgotten as well.

I loved Blog Action Day. This year's BAD topic was about poverty. How cool was that? The organizers hoped to bring increased awareness by having thousands of bloggers talk about poverty. That is one idea, I am sure we (as a community of believing bloggers) could come up with more.

Oh, and just to make sure I will only add 999 photos of me stuffing my face on flickr. 1,000+ is a little excessive. :)
