Love Works: Seven Timeless Principles for Effective Leaders

Love is a verb and Joel Manby does an awesome job in applying seven stellar principles of love and applies it to effective leadership.

“After appearing on Undercover Boss, I never imagined how people from across the world would embrace our company and culture. The overwhelming response and hunger for a better a way to lead inspired me to write a book. Love Works is the result. It is a practical and “how-to” guide for all leaders – whether you lead a company or a carpool.”- Joel Manby

We need more of this kind of leadership!

Love Works

Love Works

Joel Manby shares how leaders at every level can harness the meaning of love, the verb, and improve their culture and bottom line. It is a practical and “how-to” guide for all
leaders.

Love Works challenges leaders to allow integrity and faith to guide leadership decisions, outlining seven time-proven principles that break down the natural walls within corporate cultures, empowering managers and employees, disarming difficulties, and cultivating an atmosphere that builds long-term success. Joel also leverages the undeniable truth that love builds healthy relationships at home so why not use the same behavior to build healthy relationships at work?

You’ll dive deeper into these seven timeless principles:

  1. Patient – have self control in difficult situations.
  2. Kind – show encouragement and enthusiasm.
  3. Trusting – place confidence in someone.
  4. Unselfish – think of yourself less.
  5. Truthful – define reality corporately and individually.
  6. Forgiving – release the grip of the grudge.
  7. Dedicated – stick to our values in all circumstances.

Leadership is a role of servanthood and love, not tyranny and power. Joel Manby brings a refreshing and challenging message to a world that has a warped view of leadership.

I’ve been trying to rectify my personal lack in areas of leadership, with limited success. My professional dynamics have changed drastically (new supervisory position with a specialized and often cumbersome group to manage) and some have been a struggle for years (worship leader ministry) and some are still new and thrust upon me (husband, father).
So I’ve been trying to soak up as much advice on the subject as possible. This looks like a good addition.

I have followed this dude’s story on and off through the years via Andy Stanley’s podcasts… I was pretty excited when he decided to write the book, and I am looking forward to reading it and passing it along to other leaders who can learn from it.

I have long been a Joel Manby fan. Even before his appearance on “Undercover Boss.” Andy Stanley shares his story in his DVD study, “Business As Usual.” It’s a great story of how Joel recognized how his life was out of balance. In fact his story hit home with me. I was listening to Joel and Andy talk this through on Andy’s podcast and Joel references the conversation with his wife about quitting his job with SAAB. In this exchange, she says, “I want you home…and when you’re home, I want you to put the girls to bed, not send them to bed.” Having young children, this hit me hard. I had been sending my kids to bed…Ugh!

None-the-less, getting my hands on “Love Works” will allow me help a few businessmen find the right balance. As I recently listened to Joel discuss the book on a podcast, I began thinking of who needed to get a copy. If I’m lucky enough to win a copy, it will probably go to someone who needs it.

Wow! I won!!! This is GREAT timing. I was giving a presentation yesterday to a small business leadership team and as they were processing what I was sharing, I thought to myself, “This leader needs a copy of Joel’s book.”

Thanks for your generosity! I hope you don’t mind me being a conduit and not a reservoir.

Looks awesome! I am always looking for another great read, :)

I think Love is the underrated leadership skill, bigger than vision, bigger than strategy. It all starts with love, if you love your team, they’ll follow you to the ends of the Earth!

    Thanks guys!

I recently heard God’s call to plant a church in a metropolitan city, and as I prepare to do that next year, I believe this book would be invaluable to me. The area I’m going is in dire need of love – specifically leaders, not only in the church, but in the corporate world, whose ultimate motivation is love for others. I believe reading this book would better equip me to lead others and to fulfill “the first and greatest commandment.”

As a young pastor, both leadership and love are a huge part of what I need and want to do well. It can be hard putting those things together. While I know true love enhances pastoral leadership, it can be hard to operate out of those seven areas when people are “difficult.” This book sounds like it would be a great asset as I continue to grow in this area. Would love to win a copy.

Wondering if you can help me out. After seeing that I won, I received an email from Daniel Decker about getting a copy of the book. I asked for a Kindle copy and sent him the kindle email address for my ipad. I haven’t received the book yet and sent him a follow up June 29, and have yet to hear back from Daniel. Do you have contact with him, or could you help me connect with him? Thanks!
