Like It? Recommend It!

Picture 1A little new feature I’ve added via Google Friend Connect‘s system is the “Recommendation” system.

As you can see now on any single post, you can recommend the post which will then show on the right sidebar.

This is a pretty neat and simple addition to any blog to help “crowd source” the interest of the readers.

Traffic, typically, is the indicator for “popularity” but I think taking it one step further and having people actually “click” something proves to be more effective long-term.

It’s super easy to add to your own site if you’re interested.

Try it out and start recommending!

Looks like an interesting concept. Any possibilities to integrate the code between Tweetthis and More! and the first RSS icon or somewhere in there?

Or maybe combine the recommendation button with the related posts in the same box? Its just getting to the point where you have a lot of boxes and links and adding one more is adding one more. For example, do you realize you have four different places to tweet any individual post? Five different links to the ChurchCrunch RSS feed? I know this is a tech blog, but you might be hitting overkill on this.

Thought about it. Perhaps that's a better spot.

Ok (Hands Up) I guess the only question would be have the subscriptions come from the placement of addition subscribe links or recent shifts in content type or some combination of the two?

a combination of the two probably… but, there have been some other factors as well i believe. i'll have to look into it.

Not sure if you've been watching that little red box in the upper corner with RSS subscriber #s but that # has been going up since those links have been added.

My question is what does that recommend this actually do besides keep a tally on this page?

yes. the placement of those “subscribe” links have been EXCELLENT.

        :)

i'm not sure it does much more. it'll be a little test for a while. As usual, i'm very comfortable with getting rid of it if it sucks.
