Lent and Blogging – What Are You Doing This Season?

ashwednesdayToday is Ash Wednesday and that means that Lent starts today.

For many of the readers here this is a particularly powerful time for us as we travel with Jesus historically for 40 days up until his death on the Cross for our Sins.

Lent begins today, February 25, 2009 and ends on April 11, 2009, which is the day before Easter.

Already a few have given up blogging for Lent, like FlowerDust.net, and a few others have done even more seemingly-drastic things (although not necessarily related to Lent).

Is God challenging you to do something for this season of Lent with your blog or the technology that you use?

I've been thinking about Lent. Lent is a like a time in the wilderness – preparing the way for the Lord. We use this time to prepare our hearts, as we reflect on the passion and resurrection of Christ. Traditionally, lent was a time of fasting. Fasting sharpens are minds and focuses are thoughts on God. To just go without food is not fasting in a Biblical manner.

Lent has now evolved to giving something up, something that is good – similar to food. We use this time of giving up – to focus on the Lord.

Not blogging, not twittering is a valid way of observing Lent. BUT…. if you view blogging and twittering as an extension of your ministry you probably won't give it up. Instead you may focus even more on using your Twitters and Blogs to prepare the way for the Lord.

That's what I hope to do during Lent.

thanks for the challenge~ twittering and blogging~ is new for me and it has sharpened by mind & your right focused my attention in the midst of the social networking jungle. My plan is to contribute and minister through http://www.moonmonkeycoffeecompany/blogspot.com, journalartist/blogspot.com, twitter/givelovecoffee and http://www.shine.FM. Having said that….I will be intentional about quality not quanity during these next 40 day journey! Life is for celebrating. givelovecoffee

I'm giving up something – sweets – but I'm also doing something. Blogging. Daily. That's a discipline that I feel needs to be developed. I even posted about it. http://www.chezcrazy.org/?p=574

I'm right there with @chrisdat. Instead of giving up something like food, blogging etc i'm giving up something which really pulls me away from God and something i hope to continue to give up long AFTER Lent is over… what is that "procrastination, idle time, wasted time, distractions etc." You can see my full thought process, albeit nothing special over at my blog… http://www.jonese.us/post.cfm/lent-or-lint

Those that are not giving up something my wife and I are drinking only water for Lent to support Blood Water Mission. We are going to contribute the equivalent of what we would have spent to dig wells in developing countries.
