jQuery Masonry is a dynamic layout plugin for jQuery, the flip-side of CSS floats.
The basic demo, above, is multi-column, and gives you a basic idea of how jQuery Masonry renders content.
Here are some of the jQuery Masonry demos:
- Basic single-column
- Basic multi-column
- Images
- Tumblelog
- Animating with jQuery
- Animating with CSS Transitions
- Animating with Modernizr
- Adding items
- Infinite Scroll
- Gutters
- Right-to-left
- Centered
As you can see, there’s a lot of flexibility here. If you’re looking to find something that stacks like TED or Pinterest, this is going to get the job done.
jQuery Masonry website includes a number of websites that uses the plugin, so you can see it beyond the provided demos and how it functions in a completely designed situation.
jQuery Masonry is well documented, free to download, and is worth a look.

Interesting plugin. I will still use CSS to posisition my general layouts. However, it is nice to know about this plugin if I want to do a crazy effect like the one on TED’s website.

It did seem like a nice flexible plugin.
