I create Vlogs and video game Let’s Plays on YouTube. I love the medium of a video because you can tell so much in such a short amount of time.
But it is not easy.
It’s hard enough just coming up with the ideas, having the right tone and stage presence for it, and continuing to turn out content. One thing you probably won’t think about though is how much editing, disk space, and time it takes to create the final video.
Documenting why and how we do something as a church or as a church tech team is important. It helps us keep important details safe, and accessible to others we work with. It is a way to safeguard that the Church’s mission is not compromised by our absence. You can read about the importance of documenting in this first published post in the series. We need to look into some of the things that get in the way of documenting. This makes a post on debunking the myths of documenting appropriate.

There’s a reason IKEA doesn’t sell their stuff without instructions. It would be foolish for Yamaha to ship a console without any guides. I’m sure they’re many of us around the world glad they ship with manuals. Every thoughtful producer ships their product with some sort of documentation. To bring it a little closer to home, church has the ultimate example of documentation. Bear with me. I know someone might already be thinking I’m going the corny route. You know, like how, “…the Bible is the manual of life…”. Though it is that’s not what I’m on.

This week we talk about culture within an organization. Whether it be a work culture, church culture, basically the culture within any organization of people. We hope you enjoy the discussion — we sure did! 😀
Budgets are, or should be, clear statements of intent. They’re a critical part of strategy execution. Your church cannot (or should never) run without them. I’m no finance expert but I can tell you that you don’t need money to draw up a budget. It is about what you want to accomplish and how. This is where strategy (what / end goal) and the means (how) come together. And, as with anything else in church life, church tech must never be left out in budgeting. Church tech budgeting, and this includes the expenditure, must never be an afterthought.
