Is the zenPad an iPad alternative?

Yes, the 8BIT team has an iPad along with the plethora of other Apple fans in the community and we’re likely going to be hearing about it for the next several months, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t alternatives out there.

Take a look at Enso’s zenPad.

Here are the specs…

  • Android-based
  • 5 inches
  • 8GB of storage on a micro-SD card
  • 667MHz process
  • WiFi (with an external 3G adapter)

Okay, so perhaps it’s not an equal competitor to the iPad, but the monicker and the design are definitely targeting that same sector of the market.

So would you go for it? Why not (or why)?

I haven’t seen this in action yet, but I’ll tell you what — Android ROCKS! I have had my Droid for a few weeks now and it’s really slick. And with Google announcing that 2.2 will fully support flash things could get very interesting.

Ah, Flash. Seems to be the story of the week, huh?

I’d have to say I’d pass. Even though it will most likely have a few advantages on the iPad (flash being one, and most lkely a few others), I think I’d still go with an iPad.

The big seller for me isn’t the hardware, or even the OS, although both are nice. It’s the software. Just as there are exponentially more apps for the iPhone than there are for the Android, I’m guessing the same will be true of the iPad and other similar devices.

Since Apple was first to the scene and had a huge release accompanied by equally huge sales, developers are scrampbling to create the coolest, most original, and most functional apps for the new platform. Even though other devices will be quite similar, they’re going to be second in line to Apple for some time at least.

Until I see equal quantities and variety of apps being released on other platforms iPad would be the choice for me.

Yup. All good points – the whole ecosystem around Apple’s products give ‘em a definite advantage.

it can’t be a competitor to the iPad if it’s not legit. Based on this engadget story, it sure sounds fishy:

Ha! Seriously. Looks like this thing is becoming sort of out drama.

Nonetheless, I’m sure it’s a matter of time before some form of Android-based tablet hits the market.
