Instagram has come a long way. From the simple snap, filter and share to become a feature-rich app and platform. Some of the changes were about beating other platforms vying for people’s attention. We can’t deny that the stories were about keeping users away from Snapchat, for example. Live to ‘deal’ with Periscope and other live / streaming platforms. The justification for features such as Boomerang, Rewind, Stop-motion is debatable. Despite these features, there are small changes that can have more significance.
It is not always the flash and sleek features that matter.
One of these changes is the hashtag and profile links in bio Instagram announced. It took them long enough! It’s perplexing how they rolled out some of the complex features before simpler ones. OK, this will not be a rant…
What Instagram Hashtag and Profile Links In Bio Are About
Users can now add or mention other accounts in bios, and when clicked users end up at the mentioned profile. Before this, it was an inactive or plain text.
The same applies to hashtags. Adding a hashtag to a bio enables people to click and see posts or categories you associate your account(s) with.
Why This Is A Big Deal For Your Church
This now gives your church a way of linking to all Instagram accounts if you have more than one. You can now mention all related accounts in bios of the various accounts. Some churches have separate Instagram profiles for different ministries, departments and events.
Thus profiles could be a great way of helping your church and its wider community of your other activities and accounts. Now isn’t that great? Of course, it is.
Every account (and or hashtag) associated with your church is now linkable in your Instagram bio (Click to Tweet)
Hashtags in bio could be great if your church has created ‘unique’ hashtags. The first use that comes to mind are events such as conferences. This could be handy for a sermon series, capital campaigns, outreach events and more.
