I don’t believe in a lot of life hacks for people because many people are simply using cognitive behavioral tricks that temporarily change their thought patterns which do not generalize into a “it will work for you too” mentality. But the infographic below is not just a life hack, but something that has been scientifically provide which companies like Starbucks and Apple have done to make a fortune. So even the doubter in me is taking note.
Churches, apply this to your website and bulletins. Pastors, consider how this can change your own sermons and online ministry.
- If you are running a newsletter for your church or blog and have a signup form, focus on the signup form. As the infographic shows, you ask for a telephone number, you will lose subscriptions. Ask for street address, you will lose more subscriptions. And so on and so on.
- In fact, the number of forms, regardless of what you are asking about also reduces the number of conversions you will get. Less is more, even if it means less initial data. You can ask them later.
- Streamlining the process does not mean less data, it means more conversions which is actually the important thing. Want many people on your newsletter, then why do you care if they are volunteers. Ask that question somewhere else. Want people to volunteer, don’t ask them what they want to do, just get them as a volunteer and ask them what they want to do later. Maybe even limit the options to your biggest needs.
How can you streamline your ministry sign-ups to make it better?

I value this logic even though I wish it weren’t true.
I wish people were more patient and took more time to read, but I know they don’t – I know I don’t, as much as I think I do.
I decided to take this to heart and remove two optional fields from the signup form for a project of mine (see my website link on this comment). We’ll see if I get more signups as a result!

Nice work! Let me ask, why do you have the Yes checkbox there? (I get you want verification they will play nice, but do you need the checkbox or could you just have the text without it?)
