This is a great idea, no doubt. Just one question: since many routers have heat vents on top, wouldn’t this cause them to overheat/crash/reduce life expectancy?

If you have heat vents on top, then don’t do this. It would depend on your router. For instance, mine are on the bottom sides, so this would work great. (Mine is mounted to the bottom of my desk — out of sight!)
