Today’s average teenager will consume almost eleven hours of media and commercials each day. So with so much consumption, the question is, what kind of message are they hearing. One organization has decided to look at the impact on teenage girls and how this impacts their view of self and others. The results are unfortunate.
I wonder if the end goal of all of this is simply money. Do we care about what we are doing to the young girls or are we all about trying to get the almighty dollar? Is it worth the risk to emotionally destroy a whole generation?
Here are some of the statistics from the video.
- The average girl will have seen 77,546 commercials by the age of 12
- 3 out of 4 girls feel depressed, guilty, & shameful after spending just 3 minutes reading a fashion magazine.
- In girls 18 years and younger from 1997 to 2007, cosmetic surgery is up 300%, liposuction 400%, and breast augmentation 600%

What can we do to stop this horrific course we are on?
