Happy Belated Birthday OpenSocial

I’ve already touched upon Church 3.0 being Open Source, how Ministry needs an OpenID, and how this philosophy needs to continue to make itself manifest in our software and product development for ministry applications.

OpenSocial is another one of those “movements” that is much more than just a common foundational base for application programming interfaces (APIs) and is like that of a ideology: It’s a set of beliefs and goals with the desire to simply better the social internet experience.

Can’t say “no” to that, right?

Below you’ll find the State of the Union slides as originally posted from TechCrunch.  It’s a quick presentation, but don’t breeze through it too fast… you’ll want to make some mental notes, lock them away somewhere (but easily accessible), because you’ll see some of this design philosophy eventually.

Actually, it’s almost inevitable.  And there are practices here that we must pay attention to, because many applications, services, and web apps that we will use will be structured as such.

And probably more importantly is that the people we are trying to reach will be using this platform as well.  That’s a very good thing too because, to a certain extent, it’s like we’re speaking different languages but this enables the possibility for seamless app-integration and communication.

What does that really mean?  It means that we may be able connect and communicate much more easily and faster with people online than ever before.

If this is all a foreign language to you, that’s fine!  I’ll be keeping tabs on this so you don’t have to… but I expect you to be aware of it…!
