Giveaway: My iPhone 3GS

I’ve had a blast with my new iPhone 4 which means that I’m “stuck” with an unused iPhone 3GS, which is in great condition.

Instead of selling it to someone for a few bucks my team thought it would be a great idea to give it away to someone in need.

I agree.

Here are the deets:

To Enter…

Drop a comment below telling us about someone that really needs an upgrade on their personal cell phone. This could be someone who’s got an old Nokia from the late 90′s or someone who’s recently lost their phone or damaged it but is unable to afford a replacement.

If you send us a video comment, even better…!

Our hope is to provide a handset for someone that seriously has a need instead of someone who’s just wanting to upgrade for upgrades’ sake.

Hit us up!

My wife really needs it. Right now we are using a beater phone for her to get by with when her old flip phone died. She is a full time mom, and a part time Children’s Ministry Coordinator. It would help with keeping track of email on the go, as well as the GPS and maps ability to help her when she is out and about. Also, just being able to communicate more easily when I am in meetings, and she needs immediate feedback from me on issues would be great to do via free texting apps, or Twitter.

Love the site. Keep it up!

This would be for my wife.

She has a Verizon Blitz (literally made by Verizon. Not LG. Not Samsung. Verizon) She’s gone through three of them because they just die. They are that bad. This one is on its last leg, with a contract ending soon.

Before that, a pink Moto Razr that she reverts to when her Blitz dies.

She refuses to buy a phone, and only will get the free ones.

She also likes to ‘borrow’ my phone because of all its features, leaving me with a severely drained battery with little of my use to show for it.

I’ve asked her why she doesn’t upgrade to a smart phone, and she said, “If someone gave it to me, sure.”

So I’ve been entering contests to win her one, so it’s for her, with a little bit of selfishness for me. :)

Wow. This is great timing. I would like to get this for my Worship Pastor, Derek Overton. He recently had made the move to AT&T, and would have liked to have gotten an iPhone, but it wasn’t in his budget. He had to settle for an LG phone that has touchscreen capabilities, but there’s hardly any integration with things like email, calendar, Facebook, etc.

Seeing as how he uses Planning Center and we will soon be making the move over to Google Apps which will allow him to easily have mobile access to his email and calendar, this would be a perfect tool for him.

I would love to have this to give to my dad. He has always had the hand-me downs of me or my mom. I finally got him something nice last year and he recently lost it. So it’s back to using a hand-me down from my mom.

Plus he loves technology and would get a kick out of having at his disposal everything an iPhone can do.

I’ll bite! My fiancé desperately needs a new phone. Her current one, a Blackberry from a few years ago, is on its last legs. The ringers work…occasionally. Sometimes she’ll get text messages. More often than not she doesn’t get notification. She works primarily via email and needs something that can keep her in touch where ever she is.

As she and I devote our spare money to our eventual wedding and just keeping ourselves afloat, it would be a huge blessing for her to have a phone that she could actually rely on for her job.

My old roommate Joe just got married and he’s NEVER owned a cell phone. I promise, cross my heart. I know it’s hard to believe. His wife Mandi (who has an iPhone) has said she won’t force him to get one until she gets pregnant. But I have to believe his lack of cell phone annoys her even if she’s a good sport about it. He has an iPod touch that he really likes, and I think if someone were to hand him an iPhone he would finally want to take the plunge. Plus, when people see he has a cell phone, there will be all sorts of fun rumors about their expanding family.

This is way cool! Umm my wife needs a new phone. She has the first generation and her phone is in need of a new upgrade. If she touches certain parts of the screen, nothing happens. :)

My friend uses a Samsung PM-A740. It’s borderline unusable. I’ve been trying to convince him for ages to get a new phone but he’s holding out. The battery life on that thing is literally 10 minutes of talk time. It’s a pain for me because his phone is always dead (selfish motivation?). This would be an awesome surprise. Thanks for the giveaway!

I would like to get for a friend of mine who’s starting his own ministry, but is in constant need of money. He travels a lot, but hasn’t got a smartphone, but an old Motorola which has the antique capabilities of calling and texting :) Whenever we need to send him something like email we have to wait ’till he gets back home.

All ideas he gets while driving or sitting in the train, are sometimes poured over us in a tsunami of emails with as opening ‘Can you please do …’

He has twitter, but doesn’t use it. He has facebook, but doesn’t use it, he has some other social-media-accounts which he doesn’t use because he thinks it is more interesting to use on the road. Whenever he gets to a location with wifi (hardly ever free overhere) he pulls out his laptop like he has to respond to an emergency and quickly tries to get access and read his new emails.

So it would be great for him to have a bit more sophisticated device to stay in touch with the world …

Well, I am using a Chinese mobile (70 US $), which is very limited in it’s functionality. I am looking forward for an iPhone, so that I will be able to access YouVersion…

By the way you guys blog a lot about stuff related to iPhone and applications but I can’t try any of them out cos I don’t have a one.

In my country an iPhone costs me minimum 700 US $ which I can’t afford for…

A Blackberry costs at least 750-800 US $…

    My Pastor.

Approved by Church to add data to his plan. Hardware of his choosing at his cost.
This would be very good for him…He really needs to make the jump because of recent numerical church growth, but has been putting it off for financial reasons. Small rural church….

I could definitely use a new(er) phone! I currently have the 3G and apparently I overcharged the battery or my charger has a bad connection because my phone barely lasts half a day now and much less if making phone calls (it continues to discharge while connected to the charger, it gets super hot and literally drops 1% for every 1 minute of talk time :-/ ).

I still have half a year left on my contract, so I could upgrade; however, I was still planning on sweating it out for a few more months to save some money (just dropped $300 on a Summer Youth Camp).

I love my iPhone and I usually use it for everything from photos to productivity, but the fact is that I can’t really do much anymore. I appreciate you giving your phone away, and I’m sure it’ll be a blessing to whoever gets it! Thanks!

MY HUSBAND! Okay my husband is the “guy you give old phones” to… he refuses to get a new phone… he has JB welded his last phone together, and has had 4 different old motorola razors… because they die, then someone finds one in a drawer and gives it to him… half the time I can’t get ahold of him because he doesn’t answer because 1) the phone died 2) he is so used to a dead phone he doesn’t turn it on 3) the phone’s screen is dead and he can’t see who is calling so he lets it go to voicemail.

Not kidding he had a phone that had no working screen for 2 months. He has “fixed” most of these phones with E2000, JB Weld, or superglue…. I just want him to have a real phone finally…

I would like to recommend a women at my mom’s nursing home, Cherington Place, here in Surrey, B.C. She is a wonderful person and doesn’t have a phone at all! She is only working here temporarily until the person she replaces comes back from maternity leave. She had to take this position because the one that she had been promised after leaving her job of 35+ years left her high and dry. And she couldn’t go back to the first job.
Joanne is a wonderful lady and so kind to both the residents and the staff. I have always found her to be extremely helpful and would love to be able to return the favor..
    Thank you for your consideration.
    God Bless,
    Christine Bethke

My story isn’t terribly heart wrenching, but it’s true nonetheless. I work in IT and often need access to either email or the web or our CRM. My boss and I would love for me to have the ability, but I’m stuck with an LG Shine (it’s pretty rough). It’d make work easier, especially with all the offsite work I do. :)

Just wanting to catch up with the US. I’m a missionary in the West Indies. Usually we get the leftovers, like 8 track Christian tapes. My cell phone with the rotary dial is about worn out. OK, I really am a missionary and I’m in the West Indies. I made up the part about the cell phone with rotary dial.

I would love the iPhone 3G. I have wanted one for years, but I have also had to prioritize my finances. I adopted two children from South Korea and this set us back about 40 K. Needless to say…..the iPhone has to wait. My wife and I keep in touch with the cheap phones others get rid of on eBay. (sometimes quite a gamble).

i’d love to give this to my dad. he is a full time pastor, and he has an old blackberry. he doesn’t know how to use it and he lugs around his laptop everywhere he goes. he had hip replacement surgery and he helps set up and tear down the church every week and then comes home and has to sit in front of his laptop to do his emails. it would be so efficient for him to have an iPhone so he can access his email away from his computer!!! he gives 100% of his time to everyone else, and never has time for himself, so this would give him some more time :)

I’d love to be able to give my hubby, Dwayne, an iPhone. He had a brain surgery to remove a tumor in February and two subsequent brain surgeries and as a result is now legally blind though he has some low vision. His current phone is not the best because of the small screen, but he can make out things on my iPod Touch screen and read via the Kindle app and it’s back lit screen. An iPhone would be the best of both worlds and allow him to read, listen to books and make calls and is not something we can afford right now since he can’t work. Thanks for the opportunity!

If I win the phone I’ll give it to my buddy who has the worst luck with phones ever! That luck had changed once he bought his first iPhone, the 3G. He had it for a full year, which happens to be a record for him, before it pooped out on him and the touch screen stopped working. He was able to upgrade to a new 3GS a few months ago and it worked great until he went to Disneyland. Splash Mountain decided to dump a bucket of water into his pants pocket and into his 3GS. The back light on the screen stopped working after that. He took it to a repair shop that quoted him over $300 to fix it, which he said no thanks to. When he got it back the screen didn’t work at all. Of course the shop said that’s how it was when they got it…shady! So now he is stuck using his old Nokia brick that has the game “snake” on it and hardly does text messaging. He is a youth leader and small business owner who really needs another iPhone for work but can’t afford to buy one until he’s able to upgrade in a year. He’s a cool dude. I wanna win the phone for him!

It would well used by my mom.

She is a part time connections secretary at our home church. A few weeks ago her purse and another ladys purse were stolen. My mom does alot of volunteer work throughout our church and being able to consistently connected to her email allows her to continue doing what she loves to do. With that my mom is very fruggle with get money and cannot afford the 700 it would cost to get another iPhone like the one she had stolen. My mom loves to help others and would definately benefit from this giveaway. Thanks so much for reading this.

I’d love this for my wife, who inherited my 2g iPhone that I dropped two weeks before she got it, partially obscuring the earphone port. She had the money to get a new one but chose to use that to pilot a program to teach children the value of money (and how important it is not be in debt) at our church in conjunction with Financial Peace University at we are now helping to facilitate.

I would absolutely love an iPhone…I’m a missionary who is currently on furlough working in the school district teaching little kiddos until heading back out on the field. My phone is an older run-down sprint phone that keeps going on roam if it’s on for too long and has to be restarted/turned off&on often. Also, it would not work well overseas so an upgrade would be absolutely amazing! Either way, this is an awesome thing you’re doing! love it and am sure whoever will be blessed immensely! :)

Hi, My name is Nick, I graduated from Tibet University. I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord while I was a sophomore in college. God has called me to follow him and to share the gospel to the nations. I have served in the Southwest Minority University and other universities. God used my experience to let me know and reach some unreached people groups. (About UPG: http://www.joshuaproject.net) .Currently, God is leading me join the ministry to reach those Unreached People Groups.
My cell phone was broken in past month. I was intend to buy another one or get a gift from others. there are too much troubles on communication after my phone broken. if you I win this iphone, I can do better on my ministry and use GPS to reach more UPG. And there are some friends in US can bring it to me if i win it.

my Nokia is falling apart, I will never be able to afford an iPhone, not in the immediate future at least.
but I would seriously love one.
P.S. if by some luck I win, there are peeps coming from NP to South Africa for Married Life Live
    sweet :)

much like many of the other commenters, it would be for my wife.

My wife does an amazing job corralling our 4 kids. Two of those are our 3 yr old twins…that’s says enough right there. But also add in that our 7 yr old has type 1 diabetes and my wife does an amazing job of managing that all day long… let’s just say, my wife has her hands full. so anything that can make her life easier (such as an iPhone!) is always a good thing!

  34. July 5, 2010 at #

Could use one because my last phone died of some screen failure (Nokia 3600) now i’m stuck with my old one (Nokia 3210) and my country doesn’t really provide iphones and prolly never will so it would be nice to actually get my hands on it someday.

Thank you and good luck to the other competitors.
