WordPress is one of the most amazing blogging platforms/CMS on the market today. I’ve been using WordPress for almost seven years, and I have to say that in all of that time I’ve never looked for a replacement. And honestly, nothing about WordPress is currently pushing me on to greener pastures.
However…
This. Is. Awesome.
Meet Ghost
Ghost is one of the newest wunder-projects of Kickstarter, and it just might be the blogging platform to unseat WordPress in my heart. I mean, come on!
Look at this:

In case you missed some of that, Ghost features…
Side-by-Side Markdown and Preview
This is awesome! Nothing kills your workflow by having to “Save Draft,” wait, “Preview Post,” wait, and then begin to review the changes you’ve made. This looks awesome.
Simplified, More Customizable Dashboard
Personally, I don’t use my WP dashboards all that much. To be honest, this stems from my early days when I didn’t understand a lot of this stuff. Now, I understand most of it, but don’t really care for how its displayed. A new dashboard would be seriously welcome.
Tons of Other Good Stuff
The good stuff keeps coming! Ghost is also mobile friendly and is being prepped to handle even the most ambitious blogging projects. It even looks like WordPress theme developers will have an easier time porting their themes over to Ghost. (Did you heart that 8Bit? Can we get some Standard love for Ghost?)
I’m very excited about Ghost. Seriously excited. Not only because I can’t wait to use Ghost, but also because I can’t wait to see how this challenges WordPress to offer more (and less) features to its users.
If you want to find out more about Ghost, follow them on Twitter, check out their website, or donate to their Kickstarter campaign.
Does Ghost excite you? Would you use it?

The split view would be super helpful: and it works on iPad. Nice.
Phil Schneider says
I totally agree!
Thanks for the comment!
Gangai Victor says
Nice find Phil, this might turn out to be a game-changer!
Eric Dye says
I agree. As much as I like WordPress, this looks really #hawt.
Phil Schneider says
Thanks! I’m sure hoping it will be. Not because I’m upset with WP, but I can’t wait to see how this forces WP to evolve. If Ghost becomes the blogging platform and WP evolves into a more refined CMS, then I’m fine with that!
Mark Robinson says
I don’t consider this a replacement – its different.
As he says in the video – WP is going down a CMS route while this is coming back to the core of blogging.
Looks slick as!
Phil Schneider says
Exactly. I’m pumped to be able to use WP as a CMS for my larger projects, but when it comes to just straight up blogging—especially when I teach it to students or older people—I want something simpler.
Andrew Hansen says
I’d switch to Ghost in a heartbeat. I love WordPress and have gotten to know it pretty well, but this looks amazing and would be way more optimized for what I’m trying to do with my personal blog.
Eric Dye says
True story.
Phil Schneider says
I don’t know if I’d switch all of my projects over, but some would definitely.
Next year, I plan on starting a blogging club at my school. We will learn WP, but I think that I’ll have them use Ghost for our school blog/newspaper.
Thanks for the comment!
Britt McCrimmon says
We also use WordPress and have for years, but ghost is looking like it will be a winner for the blogging world!
Phil Schneider says
I agree, Britt. I can’t imagine not having at least one WP-based project after embracing it so fully, but Ghost could be a real game changer, if for no other reason that to help WP redefine itself as a full CMS.
