Rick Smith is seriously larger than life.
The first time I met this guy was at Church Tech Camp : Dallas and he literally freaked me out with the double-popped collar, loafers, and a grin that suggests some kind of neurosis and a laugh that tends toward psychotic instability.
But, in his words, “He’s truly legit.” And I’ve got nothing but love, and he’s now considered a good friend.
It’s been a pleasure getting to know him, his ministry, and how he’s using Technology for Kingdom building. It’s also been nice sharing the trials and tribulations of going to the same Seminary together!
If you aren’t following him on Twitter, that’s ok… you’ll hear his name soon enough. He’s twitterati.
Name?
Rick Smith aka @Rick_Smith

Time Bandits or Favorite Websites?
Time Bandit? – Twittter wins this award by a land slide! Keeping up with the massive amount of people I connect with on Twitter could be someone’s full time job!
I am an insanely relational person, (It’s no surprise since The Bible clearly teaches we were made to be realtional, but that’s another blog post for another day!) and so I connect with lot of people; not just on twitter, but you’ll usually find me hanging out with lots, and lots of people! (and having a great time while doing it!)
I want to connect with as many people as I can, and find creative ways for us to grow deeper in our realtionship with the Lord!
Websites: – hmm, not really sure – I use NetNews wire – so it takes me just minutes to scan through the massive amount of RSS feeds I subscribe to!
*Editor’s Note – You should be using Google Reader*
Whatcha Working On?
I always have several things going on at the same time. For now I am working (with @alliswell) on the launch of my new ministry site, RickwSmith.com, which will be up on the 15th of Feb.
I am also been asked by the great people at The Orange Conference to be a part of some social media ideas that they have! {I can’t say very much about this now, but stayed tuned to my blog for some “insider info” about the event.}
I am also in the planning stages for some summer events I will be speaking at! {again, can’t say much now, but God’s got some creative, fun, Biblical things up His sleeve!)
How do you see Web Technology impacting The Kingdom?
Wow! Great question!
Again, this is another blog post, for another day. I think events like Train Friday, and others are very quick points to show us the kind of influence, and power, the internet, and social media has.
God has given us so many extremely creative ways to connect with, and minister to people! As believers who want to engage the culture in as many ways as possible, we MUST take full advantage of all that is available to us!
I’ve heard people say social media outlets like twitter are “silly” or “time-wasters,” – to those people I would say – “tweet me, we need to talk!”
There is no doubt the social media train is leaving the station, and moving full speed ahead. The question is ; are you, and your ministry, on it?

Good post. I am in two classes with Rick this term (which is a feat since I am only taking two classes). Do not know him as well as you but he is a great guy, very engaging and fun to be around. We could all use a little of whatever psychoses fuel him, the man has an energy about him that is great to watch.
And he hasn't popped a collar in either class all term. So far.
YOU ARE? wow. i can't wait to hang in class with that guy….
Like drinking from a fire hydrant. It gets the job done, but you must approach with caution or get carried away by the current!
I wish we had a #trainfriday here in Austin.
I’ve known @Rick_Smith for, um….15 years probably. Crazy how God has brought him to where he is today and how He is using him. Absolutely love the guy!
Not true. I've seen popped collar. And the borderline insane smile.
Rick, su ha anthropos.
