When I heard Eric sound the war cry against pornography, I knew I had to join the fight.
It’s an issue which many people, including myself, have and do struggle with. One of the main reasons is because we are so shy to talk about sex and even less willing to admit our own shortcomings and so we avoid the issue altogether.
On a large scale, this has created a lack of knowledge and information about how to deal with the pornography epidemic in the church. Luckily there are some groups who are talking the fight on like Covenant Eyes.
Covenant Eyes is a group fighting to end pornography. They provide a service that monitors Internet use and emails a report to let people know what everyone is looking at, but more importantly than that, they also provide free resources for individuals and groups on how to deal with pornography. Although the Covenant Eyes monitoring tool costs, the resources are free.
Tools
The two tools they provide is Web Content filtering, stopping explicit content from reaching your computer in the first place. The downside of a tool like this, is that there are always more ways to get around them, and so a determined person could deactivate it. The nice addition to the Covenant Eyes filter is that you can set time limits, so that you could also use it to block unproductive sites during the day—in addition to pornography.
The second tools is Internet accountability. This is where your web activity is monitored and shared with people you have assigned it to—like if you have a person in your small group or your family member who have agreed to hold you into account. This service actually works with the Covenant eyes Web Content filter, and if you deactivate the web content filter for any reason (an incorrectly blocked site or negative reasons) then it will report it in your Internet accountability report.
